NASHVILLE, Tenn. – College Sports Communicators announced its 2023-24 Academic All-America Team Tuesday, which included a pair of Vanderbilt track and field student-athletes. Veronica Fraley was a first-team selection, while Sarah Omoregie was named to the third team.
Fraley, the 2024 NCAA discus champion, is headed to France in July to represent the United States in the discus at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her lengthy resume also includes appearances at the 2022 and 2023 World Athletics Championships and the 2023 Pan American Games, four All-America honors (one first team, three second team), two East Region titles, two SEC titles and SEC Field and Scholar Athlete of the Year awards.
She is currently pursuing her second master’s degree from Vanderbilt in human development studies. She completed her master’s in biomedical sciences in May 2023 and earned her undergraduate degree in health sciences with a minor in Spanish from Clemson.
Omoregie earned first-team All-America honors at the NCAA Outdoor Championships after finishing seventh in the shot put. During the indoor season, she earned a bronze medal in the event at the SEC Indoor Championships. She is ranked third in school history in both the indoor and outdoor shot put, marks she reset multiple times over the course of the season.
In May, Omoregie earned her Master of Finance from Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Management. She received her undergraduate degree from Harvard in applied mathematics.
The Academic All-America team is selected by a vote of College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) membership. Student-athletes are selected from the Academic All-District team by a committee before a national vote to determine the Academic All-America teams across all divisions.
Fraley and Omoregie are the second and third track and field Academic All-Americans in Vanderbilt history. Simone Charley was the first in 2017.
