Former Commodores Jence Rhoads and Hannah Tuomi will begin their professional careers in Iceland. The Vanderbilt duo graduated in May after a career in which they each topped 1,000 career points, and will now compete in the same country and in the same league, but for separate teams.
Rhoads signed to play with Haukar in Hafnarfjordur, while Tuomi will be playing with Hamar in Hveragerdi. The two towns are separated by 47.1 km (approximately 41 minutes) with Hafnarfjordur being located on the coast and Hveragerdi further inland.
“It is bittersweet that my time at Vanderbilt has ended, but time continues, and I am more than ready and extremely thrilled to open a new chapter in my life playing basketball professionally overseas,” Tuomi said.
Rhoads is departing for Iceland today, while Tuomi will leave in the middle of next week.
