Black & Gold Invitational Day 1 Results

NASHVILLE – Sprinter Jennifer Edobi, middle distance runner Reagan Bustamante and versatile freshman Sophia Falco provided the top Commodore highlights during the first day of competition at the Black & Gold Invitational.

Edobi, a senior from Union, N.J., put together a superb performance in the 200 meters. Edobi missed her personal-best at the distance by just .30 with a 24.47 effort, finishing second among 33 competitors.

Bustamante also earned a strong second-place finish, narrowly missing her career-best in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:28.83.

Falco claimed her first event win as a Commodore, winning the triple jump with a leap of 11.84 meters (38-10.25).

The three highlights came during the first day of the outdoor track season and first outdoor collegiate meet on campus in nearly two years at the Vanderbilt Track and Field Complex.

Vanderbilt head coach Steve Keith was glad to see his Commodores impress on the facility’s new Mondo track surface.

“I’m just very happy to be hosting a track and field meet again at our facility,” Keith said. “The initial reaction from competitors and coaches was very positive to the surface.

“From a team standpoint, I was impressed with the 200 by Jennifer (Edobi) and how Reagan (Bustamante), Kendall (Derry) and Ginger (Hutton) ran in the 1,500. I’m also pleased that Sophia (Falco) captured the triple jump,” Keith added.

A full schedule of events is scheduled Saturday at the facility. Field events start at 10 a.m., with running events getting underway at noon.
