LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior pole-vaulter Katherine Hendricks kicked off the 2010 indoor season with a sixth-place jump of 11’7.75 in the pole vault to lead the Commodores at the first day of the Kentucky Invitational on Friday. Hendricks’ jump ranks second in school history only behind Paige Roberts’ mark of 11’9.75 in which she set in 2002.

Hendricks was one of four VU pole-vaulters that competed in the E.J. Nutter Field House on Friday night.

Sophomore Meagan Martin posted a solid jump of 11’1.75 to finish in eighth place while freshmen Morgan Toone and Alyson Hasty got their first taste of collegiate pole-vaulting. Toone cleared the 11’1.75 bar to come in 10th, while Hasty rounded out the Commodores with a 11th-place jump of 10’8.00.

Vanderbilt only had pole-vaulters competing on Friday as the running events and remainder of the field events will start on Saturday.
