NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt track and field team continues its indoor season this weekend as it travels to Murfreesboro, Tenn., for the Middle Tennessee Classic. The meet marks the halfway point of Vanderbilt’s indoor season.
“We’ve been on the road the last two weeks so it will be good to be in front of a local crowd,” Vanderbilt head track and field coach D’Andre Hill said. “We’ve really worked hard this week in practice to get ready for the next couple of weeks and prepare ourselves for the Tyson Invitational and the conference indoor meet.”
The Commodores competed at the Big Ten/SEC Challenge last weekend in Bloomington, Ind. Vanderbilt was led by a pair of freshmen distance runners as Kristabel Doebel-Hickok and Adrienne DiRaddo finished in the top 10 of the 3000 meters. Each improved their season-best time in the event with Doebel-Hickok finishing the race in 10:03.66, good for a fifth-place finish, while DiRaddo ran the distance in 10:04.70 to finish in seventh place.
Other notable performances included senior Lauren Fortson, who finished sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.83. Freshman Christina Mullin won her heat in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 25.99. In the long jump, sophomore Lauryn Smith finished in fifth place, with a jump of 18’7.
