NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt’s track and field squad will head north to Bloomington, Ind. this weekend to compete in Indiana’s Gladstein Invitational Jan. 23-24. The meet is scheduled to get underway with field events beginning Friday afternoon. Over 1,200 student-athletes will compete in the two-day meet.
The Commodores are coming off a solid start to the 2009 season at last weekend’s Kentucky Invite. Vanderbilt was paced by a trio of freshman in Teegan Hill, Anna Carr and Jordan White.
It only took one collegiate meet before Carr entered the Vanderbilt indoor record books. The Destin, Fla., native sprinted to a school-record, 7.65 in the 60-meter dash, topping Autumn Smith’s seven-year school record of 7.68. Carr’s time was good enough to place 20th out of 56 sprinters and it currently is the 12th fastest 60-meter time in the Southeastern Conference.
Hill recorded Vanderbilt’s fastest 200-meter time (25.07) at last weekend’s Kentucky Invite, good for 17th place. The Lancaster, Texas native time ranks fourth in school history.
Freshman distance runner, Jordan White ran to a top-10 finish in the 800 meter run in her first collegiate track meet to lead the Commodore track and field team at the Kentucky Invitational. White, competing in a field of 28 runners kept pace with the top-tier runners by turning in a time of 2:16.66, finishing in ninth place. The Old Chatham, N.Y., native finished second among the nine freshmen competing in the 800.
Cross Country standout Rita Jorgensen posted an 11th place finish in the one-mile run after crossing the finish line at the 5:02.43 mark. Fellow sophomore Kate Southcote-Want also competed in the mile, running a 5:21.99 to finish in 24th place.
A recap and results from each day of the Gladstein Invitational will be posted on vucommodores.com following the day’s last event.
