KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Mallory Hitt, Teegan Hill, Katherine Hendricks and Meagan Martin recorded first-place finishes in their final tune-up for the SEC Championships at the Tennessee Invitational Saturday in Knoxville, Tenn. All four of the Vanderbilt runners that competed returned to Nashville with a first place honor.
“I thought the four kids competed hard today in their final tune up before next week’s SEC Championships,” assistant coach Clark Humphreys said. “We are continuing to get sharper in all areas and we want to be competing at our highest level in Gainesville next week.”
VU’s pole-vaulting duo of Hendricks and Martin tied for first place, clearing the bar at 3.35 meters.
Hill took home top honors in the 400-meter dash after clocking a 56.11 while Hitt won the high jump by clearing the 1.57 meter bar. One hour later, Hitt clocked a 15.37 in the 100-meter hurdles to place second.
The Commodores track and field team will return to the track next week as they head to Gainesville, Fla., to compete in the 2009 SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 14-17.
