LEXINGTON, Ky. Â The Vanderbilt track and field team competed in its first indoor meet of the season this past weekend at the Kentucky Invitational. The Commodores top finish came in the 3000-meter run as Kristabel Doebel-Hickok (Marina del Rey, Calif.) and Adrienne Diraddo (The Woodlands, Texas) each finished in the top 15.
“We started against some great competition this weekend,” Vanderbilt head coach D’Andre Hill said. “We had some performances to build on. Kristabel had a good performance to build on and had a very promising start to her season.”
Doebel-Hickok and Diraddo had the top finishes of the weekend for the Commodores. Doebel-Hickok finished the race in 12th, finishing with a time of 10:08.83, while Diraddo finished just behind in 14th place with a time of 10:14.29. Teammate Val Kazmer (Grand Rapids, Mich.) finished just outside the top 20 in 21st position after recording a time of 10:24.30.
In other events, freshman Sheri Sullivan (Plano, Texas) finished in 13th place in the long jump, clearing 17 feet with a jump of 17’5.25, while fellow freshman Kate Southcote-Want (Edmonds, Wash.) finished the mile in 5:15.22, good for 22nd place. Erin Guglielmo (Suwanee, Ga.) finished in 29th place in the mile with a time of 5:23.36.
