Track concludes action at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa – The 4×200 meter relay team ran the second-fastest time in school history to lead the Vanderbilt track and field team at the Drake Relays held this weekend in Des Moines, Iowa.

Running the event for the first time in the outdoor season, the team of Taylor Jackson, Lauryn Smith, Cherice Robertson and Amani Floyd combined for a time of 1:42.20, which ranks as the second-quickest time in the event in school history. The school record of 1:40.26 was set in 2006 by Garnetta Holloway, Lauren Fortson, Smith and Floyd.

Two other Vanderbilt relay teams saw action this weekend. In the 4×100 meter relay, Floyd, Smith, Robertson and Jackson finished with a time of 47.64. The 4×400 meter relay team, consisting of Fortson, Smith, Sheri Sullivan and Floyd, ran a time of 3:53.49.

Two distance runners for the Commodores also saw action. Running in cold and windy conditions, senior Valerie Kazmer finished the 3000 meter steeplechase in 11:10.57, while freshman Rita Jorgensen ran the 1500 meters in 4:37.77.
