LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Vanderbilt women’s track team completed their first day at the Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational in Lexington, Ky.
Vanderbilt’s pole vaulting unit had a strong showing today with three top ten finishes. Leading the Commodore pack was junior Katherine Hendricks, clearing 11-7.75. The Cartersville, Ill. native’s jump was good enough for 8th place.
“Today was quite a big team effort,” said assistant coach Clark Humphreys. “The next couple months are going to be exciting.”
Following Hendricks’ lead were sophomore Meagan Martin and freshman Morgan Toone, each clearing the same height as Hendricks (11-7.75) and finishing 9th and 10th, respectively.
11-7.75 matches the highest clearance of the season for Hendricks and is the new Vanderbilt career high for both Martin and Toone. Martin and Toone both recently cleared 11-5.75 last weekend at the Razorback Invitational.
Now all three Commodores share the second spot in Commodore history for the pole vault. The top spot belongs to Paige Roberts, a 2002 Commodore who cleared 11-9.75.
“Records are going to fall,” cautioned Humphreys. “Stay tuned!”
