GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Vanderbilt women’s track team competed at the Pepsi Florida Relays at the University of Florida this weekend. The Commodores came away with three top-ten finishes in a highly competitive field, including four personal bests for the ‘Dores.

Junior Rita Jorgensen placed 10th in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:31.70, shaving nearly a second off her time from last week’s Black and Gold Invitational.

“Rita ran a little better than last week but the race went out at a much faster pace,” distances coach Steve Keith noted. “It’s good for Rita to get acclimated to that fast rhythm.”

Newcomers Kristen Findley and Allie Scalf both ran personal bests in the 1500 meter run, finishing 28th and 31st, respectively. Findley finished with a time of 4:42.47 and Scalf came in at 4:44.65.

Sophomore Louise Hannallah registered the highest individual finish for the Commodores with a 5th place finish in the 5000 meter run. Hannallah clocked a time of 17:02.82. Fellow Commodore sophomore Alexa Rogers came in 11th, racing to a time of 17:29.11.

“Louise and Alexa both ran personal bests of close to 30 seconds better than last year,” Keith commented. “Louise was shooting for 17:00, so in a couple of weeks we think we can really put one out there.”

The ‘Dores then focused on the relays, with the sprint medley relay, consisting of sophomores Teegan Hill and Anna Carr and juniors Taylor Jackson and Rita Jorgensen, coming in 4th place with a time of 3:56.42.

“All four ladies ran great splits,” Vanderbilt head coach D’Andre Hill said. “It was a very nice effort,” added Keith.

Finishing up the day for the Commodores was the 4×100 meter relay, consisting of Jackson, Carr, senior Buky Bamigboye, and Hill), coming in 18th. VU shaved nearly a second off their time from the Black and Gold Invitational.

“With a new season best of 46.56, the ladies feel good and are looking forward to going under 46 seconds next week at Sea Rays,” Coach Hill exclaimed.

The ‘Dores will head to Knoxville, Tenn. this week to compete in the Sea Rays Relays at the University of Tennessee from April 7-10.
