LSU drops Dores, 4-3

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team dropped a heartbreaker to LSU, 4-3, on Friday at the Currey Tennis Center.

The Tigers took a commanding lead by claiming the doubles point with wins in Nos. 1 and 2.

No. 18 Christina Rosca and Georgia Drummy fell short to Tiger tandem Geissler and Richardson, 6-1, followed by LSU collecting the doubles win with a 6-1 victory over Emma Kurtz and Anna Ross at No. 2.

In singles, No. 31 Rosca put the Dores on the board with a straight set win over No. 33 Bridges, 6-3, 6-2, to mark her second consecutive ranked singles victory. Drummy also made quick work, victorious over Carrington by a line of 6-3, 6-4.

LSU’s Richardson and Geissler would both take straight sets singles wins over Emma Kurtz and Amanda Meyer to put the Tigers in the lead, 3-2.

Freshman Marcella Cruz battled back to win in a third set over Corley, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 to tie the match, 3-3, forcing a deciding sixth match.

Closing the match, Dasha Kourkina fell to LSU’s Cubitt, 6-3, 6-1 to seal a Tiger victory.

Vanderbilt will return to action Sunday to face No. 43 Mississippi State at 1 p.m. CT at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
