Top-10 Finish for Kim, Sattelkau

Commodores end Gamecock Intercollegiate strong

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. — Vanderbilt’s Auston Kim and Celina Sattelkau completed an impressive three days of golf Wednesday at the Gamecock Intercollegiate where both Commodores finished inside the top 10 in the field of more than 90 participants.

Kim, a junior, shot an even-par 72 for her final round to end up tied for sixth while Sattelkau, a sophomore, was 2-under-par for her third round to climb the leaderboard and finish 1-over-par for the tournament and tied for 10th. Sattelkau has now finished third, eighth and 10th, respectively, is three tournaments this spring season.

As a team, Vanderbilt resumed its third round Wednesday and carded a 289, its best score of the event. At 16-over-par the Dores came in sixth in the 18-team field.

“We have made so much progress since the Lady Gators Invitational. We did a lot of good things this week but there’s still a lot of work to do as we continue the process of getting one day better,” Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen said. “Good news is we have two weeks at home to work on some of the things we struggled with.

“Auston and Celina were solid again and neither are satisfied with how they played. It was good to see Lou play steady golf the final two rounds. I’m very encouraged with what I’m seeing from our young ladies.”

Louise Yu (+7) came in tied for 40th while Morgan Baxendale (+10) tied for 56th. Virginie Ding was 17-over-par and finished tied for 82nd while Ariel Yu, competing as an individual, was 20-over-par and tied for 87th.

“Today was a lot of fun and it kinda had the feel of a final round at a NCAA Regional. The field was that good,” Allen said. “It was also another great learning opportunity as we continue to understand how important every single shot is. We beat some really good teams but some untimely bogeys on our last hole cost us getting a couple more wins against top-10 teams.”

Duke claimed the team title by shooting an even par (864 total) while Wake Forest was second at 3-over-par. Erica Shepherd was 7-under-par for the event and took home the individual trophy.

Vanderbilt will take a couple weeks off before returning to competition at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Georgia on March 19-21.
