Meagan Martin tied a school record and the men’s runners set a host of new personal bests at the Mississippi Open on Saturday.

Martin placed second overall in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 12-09.50 (3.90m). The jump tied Morgan Toone’s school record jump. Toone finished just behind her with a 12-05.50 (3.80m) jump, and Alyson Hasty finished with an 11-05.75 (3.50m) clearance.

“Meagan had a couple of solid attempts at 13-1 and it was good to see her equal Morgan’s school record from just a few weeks ago,” said Head Coach Steve Keith.

Meanwhile, Ellie Tidman won her second straight high jump competition, finishing with a 5-8.25 jump.

“After Ellie won at 5-8 we moved the bar up to just over 5-10 for some good experience at a higher bar, one that we’ll need at SEC to score,” said Keith. “She’s jumping well and in a good rhythm.”

Alan Ash and Billy Malmed finished first and second, respectively, in their heat in the 1500m. Ash’s time of 4:03.65 was second-best for the men, with freshman Andrew Bachman clocking in a team-best time of 4:01.81. Bachman finished 10th overall in the event.

“All of the men had good efforts in the 1500 with a number of PR’s,” said Keith. “This should set all of them up well for our home meet next weekend.”

The Commodores return home next weekend for the Vanderbilt Invitational on Saturday.
