Senior Simone Charley jumped her way to a seventh place finish and was recognized as an NCAA First Team All-American for the third consecutive indoor season with a leap of 43’8″ at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday. Charley has now been named to six total NCAA All-American teams in her career as a Vanderbilt track athlete. She set the school’s all-time indoor record earlier this season at the SEC Championships with a leap of 44’5.25,” which earned her All-SEC Second Team honors and bested a previous career-best mark of 44’0″.

Senior Sarah Bell also competed at the NCAA Championships on Saturday afternoon and placed 12th overall in the pole vault with a vault of 13’3.50,” which earned Bell Second Team All-American honors. Like Charley, Sarah Bell also broke a school record at the SEC Championships meet with a vault of 13’11.25″.

Senior Courtney Clayton also earned Second Team All-American honors for the Commodores after finishing 12th overall in the 800-meter run on Friday evening with a time of 2:06.96. Clayton qualified for the race with a school-record time of 2:04.24, which she set at the Music City Challenge on Feb. 11 at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility.

Vanderbilt sent three athletes to compete at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend, marking the most athletes that Vanderbilt had sent to the championship meet since 1998, when the Commodores had competitors in the 400-meter dash, 800-meter run and 4×400 relays.

As the track & field program prepares to transition into the outdoor season, the team will travel to Atlanta, Ga. next week to compete at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Mar. 17.
