Team 3 Spring Game Saturday

Clark Lea's squad concludes 2023 spring practice with the Black and Gold Spring Game at 5 p.m.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt football holds the 2023 edition of the Black and Gold Spring Game Saturday at 5 p.m. The contest will be held at the Vanderbilt Soccer and Lacrosse Complex and can be seen live on ESPN+ and SEC Network+.

The Commodores conclude spring practice under third-year head coach Clark Lea with the scrimmage, set to see the offense square off against the defense. The game is being held at “The Plex” due to ongoing Vandy United construction at FirstBank Stadium. Festivities begin with Vandyville opening at 3 p.m. on the football practice fields behind the McGugin Center. Admission to Vandyville and the spring game are free of charge.

Lacrosse and Vandyville Lead Off
An action-packed Saturday on Vanderbilt’s campus begins at 11 a.m. when the lacrosse team hosts No. 4 James Madison. Admission is free for the American Athletic Conference showdown.

Football festivities begin with the opening of Vandyville at 3 p.m., featuring Star Walk at 4:15 p.m. For more information on Vandyville, including parking and entrance gates, click here.

Black and Gold Spring Game
The offense (white jerseys) will take on the defense (black jerseys) in the scrimmage, which is expected to last approximately two hours. The contest begins at 5 p.m. The offensive team will score points normally, while the defense can score for plays ranging from turnovers to forcing a three-and-out and a red zone stop, among others. The format is similar to last year’s game, which resulted in a 32-32 tie.

Postgame Autographs
Following the spring game, players and coaches will be available for autographs on the field for 30 minutes. Student-athletes will only be permitted to sign the 2023 team poster, which will be available in Vandyville and upon the beginning of the autograph session.

The schedule opens on Aug. 26 when Hawai’i travels to FirstBank Stadium. Alabama A&M, Kentucky, Missouri, Georgia and Auburn also visit Nashville this fall.
