Commodores collect four victories on Miami Spring Invite debut

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team opened the Miami Spring Invite with four victories Saturday at the Neill Schiff Tennis Center.

Opening with doubles play, the Commodores fell short to Oklahoma on all three courts.

Bouncing back in singles, the Dores rallied to claim four victories over Northwestern.

Seniors Emma Kurtz and Christina Rosca both dominated to start their final Commodore campaigns off undefeated.

Taking on Crowley, Kurtz came back from a 6-4 loss in the first set to claim the second set 6-3. In the final set, Kurtz blanked Briana Crowley 6-0 to take the win. Fellow senior Rosca defeated Inci Ogut in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.

Leading the Commodores, sophomore Georgia Drummy overpowered Julie Bryne at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-0 while freshman Dasha Kourkina tallied her first victory of the spring season with a straight set win 6-4, 6-1.

Vanderbilt will return to action at 7 a.m. Sunday to take on Miami in doubles play followed by facing Oklahoma in singles.
