NASHVILLE, Tenn. — After leading Vanderbilt’s offense in a 40-35 victory over No. 1 Alabama, native Texans Eli Stowers and Sedrick Alexander have been named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Honorable Mention List.
Stowers, a Denton, Texas, native, was Vandy’s leading receiver in the game with six catches for 113 yards. He posted 83 yards after the catch and caught six of the seven passes thrown his way.
Alexander, hailing from Austin, Texas, ran for a pair of touchdowns on a team-best 64 yards on 21 carries. He powered his way into the end zone on a seven-yard run to cap a 10-play, 75-yard opening drive which gave Vanderbilt a lead it never relinquished.
Stowers and Alexander are both on the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List, which is presented annually to the top offensive player at the NCAA FBS level who was either born in Texas, played high school football in Texas or attends a Texas college or university, while also exemplifying Campbell’s enduring characteristics of integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity.
The Commodores return to action on Saturday at Kentucky. Kickoff is set for 6:45 p.m. CT on SEC Network and 94.9 The Fan.
