Brown named to NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt junior Tyler Brown is among 70 players on the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award watch list, an award given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball, the association announced this week.

The Ashland, Ohio, product led the SEC and ranked second nationally in saves with 17 while posting a 2.19 ERA to pace all Commodore relief pitchers. The right-hander recorded three saves and did not allow a run in 7.2 innings at the College World Series.

Brown joins last year’s recipient UCLA’s Holden Powell as well as Illinois’ Garrett Acton as headliners on the watch list. That trio also landed first-team preseason All-American honors. Brown is also one of eight SEC pitchers named to the preseason watch list.

The NCBWA will announce the finalists June 3 and the winner of the 16th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award will be named June 13.
