Cruz, Stevens move to 2-0 in singles in Knoxville, two more doubles wins

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt women’s tennis won two more in doubles play at the Tennessee Fall Invitational and also posted a pair of singles wins Saturday.

The duo of Holly Staff and Anessa Lee defeated Fiona Arrese and Carlota Molina of Kentucky, 6-2, while Vanderbilt’s Dasha Kourkina and Marcella Cruz won, 6-4, over Kentucky’s Carla Girbau and Lidia Gonzalez.

Cruz and Amy Stevens each won in straight sets in singles. Cruz defeated Casie Wooten of Wake Forest, 6-2, 6-0, while Stevens bested Peyton Pesavento of Wake Forest, 7-6 (3), 6-3.

Competition resumes Sunday at 9 a.m. with singles play against the host Volunteers.
