NASHVILLE, Tenn. — On the home courts for the first time this season, Vanderbilt men’s tennis began the Commodore Invitational with four singles wins and two doubles victories on Friday at the Currey Tennis Center.
Macsen Sisam, Joubert Klopper, George Harwell and Max Freeman each won in singles, while Harwell/Freeman also won their doubles match in addition to Klopper and Marcus Ferreira. All of Vanderbilt’s matches on the first day of the invitational were against Georgia Tech opponents, and all were played inside due to inclement weather.
Klopper and Harwell each defeated ranked opponents. Klopper dueled with 26th-ranked Marcus McDaniel in a pair of highly competitive sets before Klopper prevailed in both, 7-5, 7-6. Meanwhile, Harwell defeated 31st-ranked Andres Martin in a three-set thriller, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.
Sisam won decisively over Schelcher, 6-2, 6-3, while Freeman went three sets in his victory over Chopra, 7-5, 5-6, 6-4.
Harwell and Freeman, who are ranked No. 19 as a doubles pair, won 8-6 over Chopra/Dong. One court over, Klopper/Ferriera defeated McKinney/Guerroro Melgar, 8-4.
Competition resumes Saturday at 10 a.m. A full schedule for the weekend is below.
