James Feeney
Assistant Athletic Director • Compliance
James Feeney has been a member of the Commodore Athletics staff since August 2016 and was promoted to assistant athletic director of compliance at Vanderbilt in February 2021.
He began at Vandy as associate director of compliance and after two years was promoted to director of compliance. In his current role, Feeney has oversight of the department’s compliance office including a staff of three full-time members and is the lead administrator for NCAA bylaws including division membership, eligibility requirements, enforcement, APR, amateurism and ethical conduct.
Feeney came to Vanderbilt from Abilene Christian, where he was assistant athletic director for compliance—also serving as sport administrator for the school’s men’s and women’s track and field and cross country programs—during the 2015-16 academic year. He was compliance and eligibility coordinator for two years at Cal State East Bay after getting his start as a compliance/athletics intern at Cal Poly Pomona in 2013.
Feeney received his bachelor’s degree in English literature from Azusa Pacific and holds a master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia (Calif.).
