Boyd McWhorter Award Nominee… 2016 SEC Community Service Team… Capped his Commodore career a two-time All-American… Ranked as high as No. 7 in the nation with doubles partner, Cameron Klinger… Duo earned an 18-9 (8-5) record playing in the No. 1 spot all season and appeared in 2016 NCAA Doubles tournament… Knocked off six top-25 doubles teams… Clinched a team-high nine doubles points… Individually, Rhys capped his singles career with a 70-66 record… Played primarily on court two… Went 13-12 in singles… Upset Duke’s No. 91 Catalin Mateas; 7-4, 6-4… Clinched the Commodores upset over then-No. 17 Kentucky over No. 108 Ryotaro Matsumura in a three set thriller; 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(1).
Junior (2014-15): Earned First-Team All-American honors in doubles… Sat atop the ITA doubles rankings as No. 1 in country from Feb. 24 – Mar. 10th with Gonzales Austin… Went 29-8 alongside Austin, and 30-9 overall… USTA/ITA Division I Men’s Ohio Valley Regional Doubles Champion… Only dropped two SEC doubles matches… USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships doubles Semifinalist… Selected to compete in 2015 NCAA Doubles Championship… Fell to Texas tech’s Dojas/Soares in first round. 6-2, 6-2… Went on a 13-match win streak from1/18 – 3/15… Compiled at 17-15 singles record, playing primarily at No. 2… Went 5-8 overall against ranked players… 2-2 against ranked players in the fall, defeating then-No. 21 Hunter Reese and No. 82 Khade… Dual ranked victories include No. 80 Beltrame, No. 118 Hinnisdaels and No. 106 Lovett.
Sophomore (2013-14): Spring– Finished the year with an overall record of 23-16 … Went 11-12 in duals, 3-6 in SEC play … Notched wins against four ranked opponents … Won in Vandy’s NCAA first round match against Virginia Tech, defeating Hunter Koontz in straight sets … Clinched Vandy’s first win over Georgia since 2004 by defeating No. 77 Ben Wagland 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 … Knocked off No. 85 Elliot Orkin in VU’s win over Florida … Took down Jarryd Chaplin in the win over Tennessee.
Fall – Finished with a record of 12-4 in fall tournament play … Made it to the semifinals of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional … Defeated Beck Pennington (Kentucky), Mark Kovacs (Purdue), Jimmy Roebker (Xavier) and David Biosca (ETSU) to make it to the semis, fell to No. 24 Hunter Reese.
Freshman (2012-13): SEC Player of the Week (3/20) … Played mainly out of the No. 3 and No. 6 singles positions finishing with an overall record of 12-14 (10-10 in dual match play) … Closed out the season on a four-match and eight-straight set win streak prior to the Sweet 16 loss … Clinched the upset over No. 4 Ole Miss with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 win … Knocked off 16th-ranked Hernus Pieters of No. 6 Georgia in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
