The Scruggs File
Jackson Scruggs prepped at Athens Academy and owns prep-best times of 4:18.79 in the 1,600 meters and 9:31.65 in the 3,200 meters. Scruggs was a state champion as a member of the 4×800-meter relay in 2023. That year, he was also the runner-up in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters and placed fourth in the 800 meters at the state championships. During his senior year, he was the GHSA Region 8 cross country champion and the runner-up at the state championships. As a junior, Scruggs placed third in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters and was fifth as a member of the 4×800-meter relay at the state championships. Outside of running, he was a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. He earned the title of AP Scholar with Distinction and graduated as his high school’s salutatorian.

Jackson is the son of Carrie and Lanier Scruggs, and he has two brothers, Lewis and Henry. His mother is a Vanderbilt alumna. His uncle, Todd Jackson, played soccer at Furman.
