Sophomores Lead Dores at June Stewart Invitational

Celia-Belle Mohr, Bridget Stammel and Sonya Macavei collect singles and doubles victories

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team won five of nine matches on Friday on Day 1 of its home-opening event, the June Stewart Invitational held at the Lummis Family Tennis Center.

Facing Purdue in singles, three Dore sophomores notched wins. Celia-Belle Mohr, ranked No. 12 in the preseason ITA ratings, defeated All-Big Ten selection Csilla Fodor 6-1, 6-2. Preseason No. 67 Bridget Stammel defeated Calissa Dellabarca in straight sets 6-2, 6-2, while Vanderbilt’s third singles victory came courtesy of Sonya Macavei who fought to win a match in a tiebreak. 

The Dores took two of three doubles matches against Louisville with Mohr teaming up with Anessa Lee, while Stammel and Macavei partnered for a win.

The Dores take on Louisville in singles and Ole Miss in doubles Saturday starting at 9 a.m. at the Lummis Family Tennis Center.
