No. 16 Vanderbilt visits No. 14 Oklahoma in conference clash

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — No. 16 Vanderbilt women’s tennis faces No. 14 Oklahoma tomorrow, marking the Dores’ highest-ranked opponent of the season thus far.

Both programs met ahead of dual matches at the Miami Spring Invite. The Sooners saw success against the Dores in Coral Gables, capturing six of the nine total singles matches between the two. Senior Célia-Belle Mohr did generate her highest ranked singles win of the season, defeating then-No. 14 Julia Garcia Ruiz 6-2, 7-5. Doubles play, though, produced similar results, as Oklahoma swept the black and gold across six matches.

Since then, Vanderbilt is a perfect 4-0 in SEC play and brings the longest winning streak in the conference to Norman. The Commodores own a 2-1 record in the all-time series against the Sooners. Sophomore Valeria Ray looks to extend her own streak, a 15-match stretch that began against Oklahoma’s Chloé Noël on Jan. 10. No. 35-ranked junior Bridget Stammel sits just behind Ray at eight straight singles wins, and No. 44 Mohr has captured seven in a row. All three of Vanderbilt’s doubles teams are on win streaks of five or more.

Oklahoma is ranked throughout its singles and doubles lineups. Garcia Ruiz maintains her position as the team’s top-ranked player, now at No. 17 in the most recent ITA singles rankings. Three other Sooners sit inside the top 100 in singles. No. 63 Cara Mester and Alina Shcherbinina lead the charge for Oklahoma in doubles, who has two other ranked pairings. The Sooners own three top-25 team wins to go along with 24 ranked singles wins and 10 ranked doubles victories.

No. 16 Vanderbilt (11-1, 4-0 SEC) matches up against No. 14 Oklahoma (9-3, 4-0 SEC) on Sunday at 1 p.m. Live streaming will be available online, with live stats accessible here at the start of the match.
