Soccer to host Arkansas, MSU this weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Coming off a 1-0 loss to Ole Miss last time out, the Vanderbilt soccer team will continue SEC play this weekend with matches against Arkansas and Mississippi State in Nashville at the VU Soccer Complex. The ‘Dores will host the Razorbacks Friday at 6 p.m. and will take on the winless Bulldogs, Sunday at 1 p.m. Sunday’s match will be aired on regionally, on CSS, with Melissa Lee and Cameron Broome on the call.

Vanderbilt (3-8-3, 0-5-1 SEC) will be looking to snap its 12-game conference winless streak this weekend. Last season the ‘Dores defeated both Arkansas and Mississippi State on the road.

Vandy holds a significant advantage in the win/loss column over both the Razorbacks and Bulldogs. The ‘Dores are 18-7-1 against Arkansas and 13-2-0 against State since both series’ started in 1995.

Scouting Arkansas
Arkansas’ offense is led by sophomore forward Ashleigh Ellenwood. Through the teams first 14 games Ellenwood has scored seven times and assisted on four other goals. The Michigan City, Ind., native has netted the game-winner in four of the teams nine wins.

Freshman keeper Cameron Carter has has played in 13 of 14 games for the Razorbacks. She has posted five shutouts in 2013, two of which coming in conference wins over Kentucky and Mississippi State.

Scouting Mississippi State
The Bulldogs offense lives or dies by the foot of senior forward Elisabeth Sullivan. In 13 games played, MSU has scored 18 goals, 12 of which coming from Sullivan. The Memphis, Tenn., native currently sits third in the conference in goals scored and fourth in goals scored in conference play. Sullivan has scored all four goals for the Bulldogs in conference games this season.

Meara Johnson and CJ Winship have split time in net for the Bulldogs, both of which allowing over 2.5 goals per game. Winship has seen the majority of the minutes, and has posted a 2-7-0 record in that time.
