Soccer heads to SC and Auburn for final trip of 2013

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s soccer team will make its final trip of the 2013 regular season with games at No. 13 South Carolina and Auburn this weekend. The ‘Dores will take on the Gamecocks Friday, at 6 p.m., and the Tigers of Auburn, Sunday at 2 p.m.

Vanderbilt (4-9-3, 1-6-1) goes into Columbia coming off of its first conference win of the season, 5-3, over Mississippi State. Cheyna Williams scored her second hat-trick of the season in the win over State, and picked up 13 points (5 goals, 3 assists) on the weekend bringing her season total to 35.

South Carolina (12-2-2, 5-2-1 SEC) is coming off a 0-1-1 weekend, with a 2-1 loss to Mizzou and a 1-1 draw with Ole Miss. SC has one of the best goal keepers in the conference in Sabrina D’Angelo. The junior keeper has posted nine shutouts in her sixteen games and has posted a save percentage of .820.

Auburn (4-8-4, 0-5-3 SEC), after dropping its first five conference games of the season, has tied its last three in matches with Georgia, Tennessee and Missouri. Offensively, the Tigers are led by freshman Casie Ramsier who has posted 17 points (7 goals, 3 assists) through the teams 16 games.

With just three games left in the season, the Commodores likely need to win out in order to have any hope at a birth the SEC tournament. That would require a win in Columbia over the ranked Gamecocks, something that hasn’t happened since 2006 when the ‘Dores won 1-0 in doubles overtime.

Following the trip it’ll be back to Nashville for the season finale and Senior Night celebration. The Commodores will take on rival Tennessee on Halloween, Oct. 31, at 6 p.m.
