Soccer drops OT heartbreaker at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. — The Vanderbilt women’s soccer team suffered a tough overtime 2-1 loss on Sunday at Virginia Tech in the final game of the Hilton Garden Hokie Invitational.

The game-winning goal came from the Hokies in the 104th minute to send the Commodores to their second straight defeat at the hands of an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent.

Senior Megan Kinsella scored the lone goal for the Commodores, tying the game at 1-1 in the 72nd minute. Freshman Duggan Hahn got the assist for her serve from the right side, which Kinsella collected and beat VT goalkeeper Dayle Colpitts.

VU senior Molly Kinsella had the only other shot of the day for Vanderbilt, a near-miss in the 85th minute. Senior goalkeeper Rachel Bachtel made six saves for the Commodores.
