Vanderbilt senior Simone Charley set an indoor school record in the triple jump with a leap of 44’5.25,” which earned her a third place overall finish at the Southeastern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Charley’s effort was the Commodores’ top performance at the first indoor conference meet ever staged on campus. The meet was held Friday and Saturday in the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility, which opened in December 2013.
Charley’s previous indoor best was 44’0″, which came at the 2016 NCAA Championships.
Charley’s third place result earned the Commodores six points in the team standings. Her performance came in arguably the most outstanding women’s triple jump competition in SEC history. Georgia’s Keturah Orji won the event with an American record-setting jump of 46’11.75″.
Charley’s senior teammate, Tierney Price leapt 39’6.50″ in the triple jump.
The Vanderbilt duo of Megan Huebner and Mailin Struck turned in top 20 performances in the 5000-meter run. Huebner placed 14th overall in the race with a new personal-best time of 16:54.63. Struck, competing in her first conference meet, finished 19th overall in 17:01.88.
The Commodores also competed in the distance medley relay, earning a ninth place finish with the foursome of Reagan Bustamante, Jenn Edobi, Lydia Witty and Carmen Carlos. The relay registered a clocking of 11:40.09.

Charley and Bell await official results from across the nation this weekend as they seek to qualify for the NCAA National Championship meet. The Division I Indoor Championships will take place from Mar. 10-11 in College Station, Texas.
Arkansas claimed repeat titles in both men’s and women’s divisions. The Arkansas men edged Alabama, Texas A&M, Florida and Ole Miss, while the women topped runner-up LSU and third place finisher Kentucky.
