The CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams for track & field were announced on Thursday and seniors Simone Charley and Carmen Carlos were two of 10 athletes named to the Division I District 3 team. In order to qualify for the All-District Academic team, all athletes must have at least a 3.30 GPA and be an important contributor athletically for their team. Vanderbilt and the University of North Carolina were the only schools in District 3 to have more than one athlete named to the team.
Carlos is a neuroscience major from Mobile, Ala., and has played a vital role for the Commodores track & field program this season. She won the 5000-meter run at the inaugural SEC Relays in Baton Rouge, La. and her season-best time of 16:26.36 earned her a spot at this weekend’s NCAA East Regional Championships.
Charley is a Hoover, Ala. native and is a dual-major in psychology and sociology. She was a 2017 NCAA Indoor First Team All-American and broke the indoor school record in the triple jump with a leap of 44-5.25. Charley also competes for the Vanderbilt soccer team.
Each of the 80 Academic All-District nominees from eight districts are eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, which will be announced in June. Below is a full list of the Division I District 3 All-District Team:
