EUGENE, Ore. — This past weekend, seniors Sarah Bell and Courtney Clayton ventured to the NCAA Track & Field Championships at the University of Oregon for the first time in their collegiate careers. By the time they landed back in Nashville, they had become All-Americans.
Bell, a senior pole vaulter, and Clayton, a senior middle-distance runner, both shined during their stint at NCAA outdoors in Eugene. Bell cleared the bar at 4.00 and 4.15 meters and Clayton finished seventh overall in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:04.02. The duo became the first Vanderbilt teammates to earn All-America status at outdoors since 2004, when Josie Hahn and Erika Schneble were recognized nationally in the heptathlon and 5000-meter run, respectively.
