EUGENE, Ore. — On Thursday, Vanderbilt track and field began competition at the Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships.
Graduate Taiya Shelby recorded a top-20 finish to close out her collegiate career with the Commodores, turning in a time of 52.64 seconds in the 400 meters.
The 2023 season was Shelby’s fifth with Vanderbilt. During that time, she left her mark on the program, resetting a total of eight school records and earning second-team All-America honors three times. Last indoor season she earned a pair of bronze medals at the SEC Indoor Championships, in the 800 meters and as a member of the 4×400-meter relay. She placed 15th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 400 meters with a time of 51.63 seconds.
The USATF Outdoor Championships will continue Friday at 5 p.m. CT when Santana Spearman competes in the U20 division of the 100-meter hurdles. The full television broadcast schedule and livestream information can be found HERE.
