Lexington, Ky. – Two Vanderbilt relay foursomes and veteran distance runners Brittany Sizer and Erika Schneble earned team points for the Commodores Sunday at the Southeastern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
The Commodores’ top result during closing day activities of the SEC meet was a sixth place finish in the distance medley relay foursome of Sizer, junior Lauren Fortson, junior Anjarae Washington and sophomore Carmen Mims.
Earlier in the day, Sizer and Schneble notched points for the Commodores with solid distance performances, helping Vanderbilt to 15 total points in the three-day meet. The total was a 13-point team improvement for the Commodores from the 2006 SEC Championships. Tennessee captured the women’s title over Georgia and Louisiana State.
Sizer finished seventh in the mile, one day after establishing a new personal record just qualifying for the mile finals. Her time of 4:55.81 narrowly missed her new career best.
Schneble finished eighth in the 5,000-meter run. His final time was modest, 17:02.78. On Saturday, Schneble shattered the team 3,000-meter record only to finish out of point contention.
The 4×400-meter relay of junior Amani Floyd, sophomore Lauryn Smith, freshman Mallory Hitt and senior Garnetta Holloway added an eighth place finish, running the distance in a season-best 3:52.19.
Holloway provided the top Commodore highlight at the SEC Championships, finishing third in the pentathlon Friday.
