NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt senior cross country runner Amanda Scott has been named to the first team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV women’s track and field/cross country team. The announcement was made by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Scott was one of 10 student-athletes named to the team after excelling in the classroom during her four years on West End. Since Scott was named to the first-team she will now reenter a pool of nominees in hopes being named an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American.
Earlier this spring the Scott was one of 37 students across the nation to receive the prestigious Gates Cambridge Scholarship, allowing her to pursue a master’s degree at the University of Cambridge in England this coming fall. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic excellence, evidence of leadership potential and commitment to improving the lives of others.
A native of Virginia Beach, Va., Scott graduated in May with a cumulative 3.992 GPA while earning a double degree in chemical engineering and chemistry. Scott was also the recipient of the Stein Stone Engineering Award, an honor that goes to the top student-athlete in the school of engineering.
Scott ended her cross country career on a strong note last fall when she placed among Vanderbilt’s top-five runners in every cross country meet, including a 4K personal best of 15:03.77 at the Belmont/Vanderbilt Opener.
Now that she has graduated Scott plans to study and work towards developing alternative fuels and renewable energy sources. In addition, Scott’s career goal is to help solve the energy crisis by implementing new technologies using the sun’s abundant energy and bioenergy.
