KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team is represented with three of the four singles semifinalists at this weekend’s ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championship following two rounds of play Saturday.
The Commodores also have a doubles team through to the final four in the event hosted by Tennessee.
The top seed in the tournament, No. 12 Célia-Belle Mohr had to face a Vanderbilt teammate during Saturday’s play. After a three-set win against Tennessee, Mohr was a straight-sets winner over fellow Commodore Valeria Ray in the quarterfinals.
Mohr will face another teammate in the semifinals, where her opponent will be Holly Staff, who defeated a pair of Lady Vols Saturday. Staff came from a set down in the Round of 16 before recording a straight-sets win over No. 70 Alana Wolfburg.
Third seed Bridget Stammel is the third Commodore semifinalist. She also was a three-set winner in the Round of 16 before easing into the semifinals with a straight-sets win. She will face No. 17 Elza Tomase of Tennessee Sunday.
Mohr is also into the doubles semifinals. Partnering with Anessa Lee, the top seeds were 8-5 winners against Tennessee Saturday to reach the final four where they will face a duo from Xavier.
