First Round Results

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – Vanderbilt’s men’s golf team carded a first-round 294 at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and are in 13th place on the team leader board after the first 18 holes of play on Sunday. Junior Theo Humphrey and sophomore Will Gordon led the Commodores with a pair of two-over par, 73’s on Sunday, and both are in a tie for 42nd place on the individual leader board.

The number-one ranked Commodores also counted three-over 74’s from senior Matthias Schwab and sophomore Patrick Martin. Freshman John Augenstein carded a four-over 75 in his first round at the par-71, 6,928-yard Los Cabos Querencia in a field that features nine of the top 30 teams in the nation.

“It was definitely a tough day for us, but sometimes days like this help you grow and help you have the kind of focus it takes to be a great competitor,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “I thought we fought and competed all the way through the round, which is what we do and for that I am very proud of them. We had a tough start and on a course like this, it’s hard to make a lot of shots up. The truth is we need to be better tomorrow and how we respond to this will say a lot about the leadership and character of this team. I love this group and I think they will be excited to get another opportunity tomorrow.”

Oklahoma State and Texas are atop the team leader board after each team fired an 11-under par, 273. Wake Forest’s Paul McBride leads all individuals after a first-round 65.

The second round of the tournament continues on Monday.
