Rosemond Sets Vanderbilt 100-meter Record During Win at Commodore Spring Classic

Nashville, Tenn. — Freshman sprinter Andrea Rosemond established a new 100-meter team record of 11.93 while winning the event at the Commodore Spring Classic on Saturday.

Rosemond, a freshman from Houston, Texas, eclipsed the former Vanderbilt mark of 11.97 set by Melissa Mailand in 1998. Only three Commodore female sprinters have run the distance under 12 seconds.

Versatile Commodore athlete Josie Hahn added to her talents at the meet, winning the 400-meter hurdles with a 1:02.22 effort. The four-time All-American also ranks as the top Vanderbilt performer in the high jump, javelin and multi-event heptathlon.

The one-day meet attracted entries from several local universities, including Belmont, Fisk, Austin Peay and the University of the South, and nine Midwestern teams.

More than 20 members of the Commodore women’s squad competed in the meet. Here’s a look at how other fared:

  • Nadiyah Humber, fourth in the 800-meter run, 2:20.87;
  • Caitlin Shannon, fifth in the 1,500-meter run, 4:43.98;
  • Brittany Sizer, sixth in the 1,500-meter run, 4:45.65;
  • Julie Eckerly, second in the 5,000-meter run, 17:38.55;
  • Debbie Huss, fifth in the 5,000-meter run, 18:06.90;
  • Jenn Sims, fifth in the 100-meter hurdles: 16:33;
  • Latisha Bryant, second in the 400-meter hurdles, 1:05.91;
  • Anjarae Washington, second in the high jump, 5’0.25″;
  • Garnetta Holloway, third in the high jump, 5’0.25″; and eighth in the javelin, 95’1″;
  • Paige Roberts, second in the pole vault, 11’0″;
  • Sydney Faulkner, fourth in the long jump, 16’10”.
