ATLANTA – The preseason honors continue to come in for Vanderbilt senior point guard Jence Rhoads, who on Tuesday was named to the 2010-11 Naismith preseason watch list.
Rhoads is one of 50 players on the watch list, which was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the previous year and expectations for the 2010-11 college basketball season.
The Naismith Trophy is the most prestigious national award presented annually to college basketball’s player of the year. In late February, the list will be trimmed to the top 30 players in the nation. The list will be cut to four finalists in March.
A native of Slippery Rock, Pa., Rhoads is a preseason All-SEC selection by the coaches and media. She is the team’s top returning scorer at 13.8 points per game. Last week, she was tabbed as a candidate for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award.
