Vandy falls 7-1 at Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. – No. 9 Vanderbilt lost 7-1 on Saturday evening against No. 23 Ole Miss at Swayze Field.

The Rebels used a six-run fourth inning to take control of the game. The Commodores were held to six hits in the defeat. RJ Austin and Colin Barczi recorded two hits each.

Austin singled to lead off the top of the second and reached second on a groundout. Austin then stole third before stealing home for the game’s first run.

Austin has stolen home twice this season, also doing so against Lipscomb on April 15.

Ole Miss was held hitless through the first three innings but struck for six runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-1 lead.

A solo shot for the Rebels in the bottom of the fifth extended their lead to six runs.

Vanderbilt loaded the bases in the ninth but were unable to pull off the comeback.

The Commodores and Rebels wrap up the series Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
