Vanderbilt takes four of six singles matches against Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Up first on the second day of the June Stewart Invitational, Vanderbilt tallied four singles victories against Tennessee to highlight the second day of the tournament at Currey Tennis Center.

“We had a great morning of singles against Tennessee,” said head coach Aleke Tsoubanos. “We were spirited and fought on every court and nearly came through in all six matches. Amanda Meyer played a really clean match and is continuing to find her stride and build confidence. Marcella Cruz and Dasha Kourkina picked up great wins playing solid, committed tennis. We’re looking forward to seeing one more day of great competition Sunday against Auburn in doubles and Kentucky in singles.”

Vanderbilt’s singles victories were all straight-set triumphs. Meyer took down Rebeka Mertena 6-2, 6-2 while Cruz and Kourkina both lost just five games apiece throughout their matches with Cruz topping Daria Kuczer 6-1, 6-4 and Kourkina beating Tenika McGiffin 6-4, 6-1.
