GAME NOTES: No. 12 Richmond 69, No. 5 Vanderbilt 66

  • Vanderbilt led by 11 points in the first half with 5:02 left. Richmond then went on an 8-0 run to pull within three (31-28) with 3:11 remaining before the half.
  • Vanderbilt led by nine (48-39) with 15:54 left in the second half. Richmond then went on a 12-0 run with four straight 3-pointers (three by Anderson) to take a 51-48 lead with 12:05 left.

Vanderbilt Notes:

  • 12th NCAA Tournament appearance and second straight (9-13 record including today).
  • Vanderbilt has now lost three straight NCAA Tournament games when as the higher seed.
  • Vanderbilt entered the game allowing opponents to shoot just 30.6 percent from the outside. Today, the Commodores allowed Richmond to shoot 54.5 percent (12-for-22).
  • Vanderbilt is 1-5 this season when its opponent makes more 3-point field goals. Richmond had 12 3-pointers’ to Vanderbilt’s six.
  • This was Vanderbilt’s third loss this season when outrebounding its opponent (36 to 27).
  • Vanderbilt is now 0-4 this season when allowing 10 or more 3-pointers.
  • John Jenkins (21 points) has scored in double figures in 33 consecutive games and made a 3-pointer in 23 consecutive games.

  • Kevin Anderson eclipsed the 400-assist mark for his career with his first assist in the first half. He finished with four.
  • Francis-Cedric Martel made a career-high four 3-pointers (previous high was two).
  • Richmond hit a season-high 12 3-point field goals.
  • Kevin Anderson had 16 points in the second half and 25 in the game (two shy of Richmond’s NCAA Tournament single-game record, third-most in school history).
  • Richmond’s three turnovers were the fewest since committing just three on March 20, 2002, against Syracuse.
