This is the 85th all-time meeting between Vanderbilt and Ole Miss … Vanderbilt trails in the all-time series, 36-47-2. Robbie Caldwell became the first coach to win their road debut since Fred Pancoast led the Commodores to a 9-6 win at Rice on Sept. 20, 1975. Vanderbilt has won four of the last six meetings between the teams. Vanderbilt earned its first two-game winning streak in Oxford. Vanderbilt is 10-24 all-time in Oxford, Miss. Vanderbilt forced three turnovers Saturday and scored following the first two … In Vanderbilt’s last win at Ole Miss, the Commodores forced six turnovers. First-year Vanderbilt coaches are 7-11 all-time against Ole Miss, posting a 4-10 record when the game is played in Oxford. Caldwell becomes the first coach to beat Ole Miss in his debut season since Gerry DiNardo on Oct. 26, 1991. In the last seven games in Oxford, the Commodores and Rebels are separated by just five points (191-186 in favor of Ole Miss). In the last 10 games on artificial turf, Vanderbilt is 5-5. In continuous SEC series since 2000, the Vanderbilt – Ole Miss series is the third smallest point differential in the SEC … The average differential is 9.7. In the first eight minutes of the first quarter, Vanderbilt had four penalties for 35 yards … Two penalties were on offense and two were on special teams … Vanderbilt had two penalties the rest of the game. Vanderbilt was held scoreless in the first quarter for the third straight game. Vanderbilt surpassed its offensive yardage total of 135 yards against LSU in the first half against Ole Miss with 145 yards. Vanderbilt’s 28 points were the most against an SEC opponent since scoring 31 against Kentucky on Nov. 15, 2008. Vanderbilt’s 227 rushing yards were its most against an SEC opponent since gaining 239 against Kentucky on Nov. 10, 2007. Since the 2005 season opener, Vanderbilt is now 16-8 in the month of September. Vanderbilt had the ball for 26:24 compared to 33:36 by Ole Miss … It was the first time Vanderbilt has won a game when it did not win the time of possession battle since defeating Richmond to open the 2007 season.

Individual Notes

Making the first starts of their careers were safety Kenny Ladler and linebacker Nate Campbell. Ladler started at safety over Jay Fullam, who dressed, but did not start due to injury. Campbell started for Archibald Barnes at linebacker. Defensive back Jamie Graham made his season debut against the Rebels after missing the first two games due to injury.

Defense

Eddie Foster had a 21-yard interception return for a touchdown with 3:36 to play in the second quarter … It was his third career interception. Foster’s interception return for a touchdown was Vanderbilt’s first interception return for a touchdown since Reshard Langford on Oct. 22, 2008 against Tennessee (42 yards). The defensive touchdown was also the first by the Commodores since Langford’s pick six. Defensive end Tim Fugger forced his third fumble in as many games this season … Fugger forced the fumble on quarterback Jeremiah Masoli as the first quarter came to an end … Fugger has four career fumbles … His three forced fumbles lead the SEC this year. Defensive tackle Rob Lohr had the first sack of his career in the second quarter. Cornerback Casey Hayward had the second pass breakup of the season. Linebacker Chris Marve totaled 10 tackles and now has 32 tackles in three games against Ole Miss. Marve made the 28th consecutive start of his career, which is longest on the team. Linebacker John Stokes set a career high with 10 tackles … His previous high was eight against LSU last week. Stokes also forced a fumble with 8:09 to play in the game … Larry Smith followed the fumble with a rushing touchdown. Ladler recovered the fumble that set up Smith’s touchdown. Safety Sean Richardson finished the game with 12 tackles … It was his sixth game with double-digit tackles. With 9:50 a tackle by Kenny Ladler on Jeremiah Masoli stopped Vanderbilt on 4th-and-1 from midfield.

Offense

Vanderbilt’s 13-play 96-yard drive that was capped by a 35-yard touchdown run by Zac Stacy with 7:14 to play in the second quarter were the most plays run in a touchdown drive by Vanderbilt since going on a 14-play drive at Wake Forest Nov. 29, 2008. It was the longest touchdown drive in terms of yardage by the Commodores since Oct. 28, 2006 when Vanderbilt went 97 yards for a touchdown at Duke. It was Stacy’s longest rush since scoring from 62 yards out against Georgia Tech on Oct. 31, 2009 … Stacy had a 33-yard touchdown against LSU last week. Warren Norman’s 80-yard touchdown run with 8:22 to play in the third quarter ties for the second longest touchdown rush in school history. Warren Norman rushed for a 111 yards. Norman’s 80-yard touchdown run gave him 104 yards on the game and 1,001 yards in his career. Norman is the first Commodore to rush for 100 yards since he ran for 119 at Rice on Sept. 26, 2009. The rushing total by Norman was the third time in his career he has topped 100 yards rushing. Wesley Tate’s 13-yard carry in the third quarter was the longest of his career.

Special Teams

Ryan Fowler hit all four extra points. Punter Richard Kent had 9 punts for a 39.1 average.
