Vanderbilt Quotes:

Vanderbilt Head Coach Tim Corbin:

Opening statement:
“The story for us was Nick’s pitching. He was able tocontrol the middle part of their order for the most part. I thought that was key because they have a lot of big hitters that can separate the game. We contained them for the most part, and we didn’t allow any freebies.”

On Russell Brewer:
“He’s a third baseman/pitcher. He played third base for us last year, and he goes out to the Valley League and becomes a pitcher. He was able to move into that spot. He really has some guts. He wants the ball, and he throws good pitches, but not great. If you want to come in and close games, you have to want the ball in that situation, and he does. He’s a competitor.”

Pitcher Nick Christiani:

On his performance:
“I was just trying to keep them off-balanced. They have a lot of great hitters. I just tried to keep the ball down. It’s a big ballpark, so if they hit it, we want to keep it on the ground. ”

Center Fielder David Macias:

On the game:
“Nick’s performance gave us a lot of confidence. It’s good to get guys like Giobbi, Feinberg and Pedro on base and bring them on in.”

First Baseman Andrew Giobbi:

On the game:
“I thought that Nick did great. It was just what we needed. I thought we played good defense and had some great hits. So it’s just what we need.”

South Carolina Quotes:

South Carolina Head Coach Ray Tanner:

Opening statement:
“We are disappointed that we are exiting the tournament. Nick Christiani did a good job against us. We were in a couple of situations where we hit the ball pretty deep but it stayed in the park. We were able to knock a couple off and so did they. We were never able to get back and tie this ballgame up.”

On Vanderbilt pitcher Nick Christiani:
“I thought Christiani located the ball really well. Like I said we had a couple of really deep balls that stayed in the park and our guys took some really good swings. He came up with some really big pitches when he needed to. We had a chance to threaten early in the game but we hit into a double-play ball. He has done a nice job for them and he is a guy that will battle all game. He make the big pitches when he needs to.”

Shortstop Reese Havens:

On the game:
“We were able to bring it back there towards the end. We wanted to get close enough to tie it up and be back in the ballgame. I thought our guys did a good job fighting there towards the end. Christiani really pitched well against us today.”

Catcher Phil Disher:

On the game:
“We tried to fight back towards the end but it was to little to late. It is tough to go home after this game.”
