Recap | Box Score

Vanderbilt Head Coach Tim Corbin:

On the pitching of Minor:
The game was predicated on the start of Mike Minor. To go deep into a ball game, especially know that we lost the first game and we’ll have to play five games to win it. We needed a starting pitcher to go deep and he did. It was a hot day obviously and he threw a lot of strikes. [He had] one tough inning, but it wasn’t all his fault. He overcame it and pitched a very solid eighth. I think it stops and ends with him.

Pitcher Mike Minor:

On the confidence in pitching:
I’ll put it on the hitters because they scored a lot of runs for me. It is really easy to go out there and have all the confidence in the world with nine runs on the board early in the ball game. I’m going to give it to the hitters for all their hard work.

On the eighth inning after allowing 3 runs in the seventh:
I knew I had to focus a lot more. It was late in the ball game, a lot of pitches, sun, were making me tired. I came out there and hit another gear. More focused. Tried to get to another level and help out our other pitchers.

Left Fielder Steven Liddle:

On 16 hits:
I think Coach said we more aggressive today. We hit the ball a little better the other way today than yesterday. Guys weren’t pulling off balls like yesterday. I think the hits finally fell through.
