Tournament Notes:

– This game marked the third time this tournament that a higher seed has beaten a lower seed (No. 12 Western Kentucky over No. 5 Drake, No. 13 San Diego over No. 4 UConn and No. 13 Siena over No. 4 Vanderbilt).
– Since the NCAA started to seed teams in 1979, there has not been more then two upsets in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament in the same city. The NCAA defines an upset as when the winner of the game was seeded five or more places lower then the team it defeated.

Vanderbilt Notes:

– First ever meeting between the Commodores and the Saints.
– Shan Foster’s first basket of the game gave him 2,000 for his career. He is the first player in Vanderbilt history to score 2,000 points.
– Jermaine Beal broke Atiba Prater’s 1998 record of 155 assists in a season. Beal is currently at 158 (5 in the game)
– Shan Foster has hit a three pointer in 43 straight games. He finished his career with 367 three pointers, ranking him second all-time in the SEC.
– Vanderbilt has hit a three pointer in 698 consecutive games. They are one of only three schools to have hit at least one three-pointer since the three-point line was implemented. The other two schools are UNLV and Princeton.
– The loss marks the first time Vanderbilt has lost to a MAAC team (3-1).
– Vanderbilt is now 9-11 all-time in the NCAA tournament and 4-5 in first round games.

Siena Notes:

– Friday’s match up marked the first ever meeting between Siena and Vanderbilt.
– Siena is now 2-2 against schools from the Southeastern Conference.
– Siena now holds a 3-3 overall record in the NCAA Tournament.
– Kenny Hasbrouck of Siena led all players with 30 points, including a perfect 10-10 at the free throw line.
– Before today, the Saints’ last win in the NCAA Tournament came in 2002 when they defeated Alcorn State 81-77 in the Opening Round game in Dayton.
– Siena moves to 2-1 against ranked teams this season (Defeated No. 20 Stanford, 79-67 on Nov. 17).
– The Saints finished the game with 15 assists and 16 turnovers, snapping a 23 game streak of having less than 15 turnovers in a game and a 12 game streak of having more assists than turnovers.
– Tay Fisher moved into a tie for second place on Siena’s all-time 3-point chart with his six 3-pointers made against Vanderbilt. Fisher now has 228 three’s, passing Marc Brown with 224 and tying Doremus Bennerman.
– The Saints shot 56.5% from the field and are 7-0 when shooting over 50%.
– Siena is 19-1 when leading at halftime.
– Fisher shot 6-6 from the field, all from 3-point range, and added a free throw to net 19 points for the Saints. Fisher came into the game supporting a 7.7 ppg average.
– Fisher tied a career-high by connecting on six 3-pointers.
– The 46 points by halftime for Siena is the second most the team has scored in the first half this season. The Saints had 50 against Niagara on Feb. 29.
