– Vanderbilt started center A.J. Ogilvy, forwards Steve Tchiengang and Jeffery Taylor and guards Jermaine Beal and Brad Tinsley. It is the fifth consecutive game and fifth time this season Coach Kevin Stallings has used that starting lineup. Vanderbilt is 4-1 with this starting lineup.
– Beal leads the team with 47 career starts, including 42 straight, while Ogilvy made his 45th start. Ogilvy has now started in 45 of 46 career games. The only game Ogilvy didn’t start was senior night last season against Mississippi State. Taylor made the 12th start of his career while Tinsley made his 10th consecutive start. Steve Tchiengang made his fifth consecutive start and fifth of his career.
First Half Notes:
– Vanderbilt’s Jermaine Beal opened the game by making two free throws after Furman was assessed a technical foul before the opening tip
– Furman won the opening tip
– After Furman took a 4-2 lead, Vanderbilt scored 13 straight points to take a 15-4 lead following a jumper by Beal at the 12:19 mark.
– Beal scored 10 of Vanderbilt’s first 15 points after starting the game 3-of-3 from the floor, including two three-pointers.
– With Jermaine Beal’s three-pointer at the 15:33 mark in the first half, Vanderbilt extended its streak of consecutive games (710) with a three-pointer, dating back to when the three-point line was established in the 1986-87 season. The Commodores streak ranks second only to UNLV (718) for the longest streak in Division I basketball. Princeton (608) is the only other team to make a three in every game played since the line’s inception.
– Trailing 15-4, Furman went on an 8-3 run to pull within five, 15-10 with 10:40 to play in the half.
– Vanderbilt shot 11-of-28 (39.3%) from the field during the first half.
– Vanderbilt’s defense held Furman to 37.5% (9-of-24) shooting in the first half
– Beal led Vanderbilt with 10 points in the first half. Ogilvy added seven by scoring the team’s final seven points of the half.

Second Half Notes:
– After scoring Vanderbilt’s final seven points of the first half, A.J. Ogilvy scored the first six points of the second half, giving him 13 straight points. Ogilvy had been scoreless before the run.
– Both teams played evenly through the first 8:15 of play with Vanderbilt holding a 44-35 advantage.
– A three-pointer by Charles Hinkle with 10:35 to play triggered a 17-3 run, pushing Vanderbilt’s lead to 23, 61-38 with 6:06 to play.
– Vanderbilt outscored Furman 36-26 in the second half, while shooting 55 percent from the floor (11-of-20).

– With the win, Vanderbilt improved to 9-3 while Furman fell to 1-8.
– Vanderbilt now leads the all-time series 6-1 over the Paladins. VU is now 5-1 against Furman in games played in Nashville.
– Vanderbilt’s win avenged a 70-62 loss to Furman on Nov. 28, 2006 at Memorial Gym.
– Vanderbilt improves to 40-6 all-time against teams from the Southern Conference.
– Vanderbilt committed a season-low six turnovers, surpassing its previous low of nine against Central Arkansas.
– The six turnovers was the fewest since Vanderbilt committed six miscues against Georgia on Feb. 23, 2008.
– Vanderbilt outscored Furman 30-14 in the paint, including 18-4 in the second half.
– Vanderbilt made 19-of-27 free throws (70.4 percent), while Furman made just 7-of-13 (53.8 percent).

– Furman’s eight turnovers tied for the second-fewest against the Commodores this season.
– Vanderbilt shot 46.8 percent (22-of-47) compared to 35.3 percent (18-of-51) by Furman.
Individual:
– Jermaine Beal scored 15 points, reaching double figures for the eighth time this season and 22nd time in his career.
– Beal’s two three-pointers in the first half gave him multiple three-pointers in three straight games for the first time in his career.
– A.J. Ogilvy scored 20-plus points for the third straight game, setting a new personal best for consecutive games topping 20 points. Ogilvy has scored at least 20 points in 15 games during his young career, including four games this year.
– Ogilvy finished with a team-high 22 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor and 10-of-13 shooting from the line. The Sydney, Australia native has scored in double figures in every game this season.
– Ogilvy’s 10 made free throws were the second-most free throws he has made in his career. His career high is 12 against Iona on Dec. 31, 2007.
– Ogilvy also had a team-high eight rebounds.
– Brad Tinsley tied a career high with a team-high five assists. He also had five assists against Drake on Nov. 29.
– Furman’s Jordan Miller led the Paladins with 11 points.
