On the sluggish shooting early on…
“We didn’t make shots. We took shots that the kids who usually make shots feel comfortable and didn’t make them.”

On the adjustments that were made at halftime…
“The only adjustment we made in the second half was that we played Tina (Christina Wirth) at the three guard to try to get another shooter on the perimeter and for rebounding. We played pretty much three posts because we were getting killed on the boards and weren’t hitting wide open shots we were getting from the perimeter. We wanted to put another perimeter shooter out there. Down the stretch, we picked up full court with two different defenses to try to pick up the pressure with eight minutes to go. We were trying to get offense off of our defense and kept switching our players’ offense for defense and subbing that way.”

On Cal’s strengths…
“What Cal is so good at is their post game. They’re the best post players we’ve seen so far this year. They don’t just have one. Both of those post players are extremely talented. And, they have another post player who can step out on the perimeter. It’s a really good combination of the three. Once they get Devanei (Hampton) back, they’re just going to be even better, obviously.”

California Head Coach Joanne Boyle

Opening Comments…
“I thought it was a great game other than the free throws. I thought the kids did a great job of executing the game plan. We spent yesterday’s practice and this morning’s shootaround we worked on scouting report defense – what we were going to take away from them and what we were willing to give up. I thought we did a great job of executing. Vandy is a great team. It’s tough to come in and play back-to-back games. Liz (Sherwood) is tough to stop. They weren’t shooting the ball well today, and they typically do. We played percentage defense. It worked out. I’m really proud of the kids how we came out in the game and pushed through. Our lack of focus on free throws at the end is disappointing. I’ll take it.”
