NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Head coach Ian Duvenhage and the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team are pleased to announce that Panu Virtanen will be attending Vanderbilt and competing for the Commodores this upcoming season. Virtanen joins blue-chip signee, Billy Rowe, in the 2016 signing class.
“We are extremely excited to have Panu become a part of our program,” said Duvenhage. “He has a big-time game and we look forward to great things from him.”
A native of Helsinki, Finland, Virtanen is the No. 1 player in his age group in the country. The right-hander owns an ATP world ranking of No. 1464 in singles and No. 1111 in doubles. In addition, out of all current the SEC men’s tennis rosters, Virtanen is the only student-athlete hailing from Finland.
