RALEIGH, N.C. — Through weather delays and rainy race conditions, Vanderbilt track and field student-athletes Lily Kriegel and Tyla Lumley posted school record performances on Friday at Raleigh Relays.
Kriegel was featured in the last section of the 5,000 meters, which included some of the fastest runners in the field. She would cross the finish line in 15:56.34, finishing 15th overall,10th among collegiate competitors in the event and breaking the program record. Kriegel is the first Commodore woman to post a sub-16-minute time in the 5,000 meters.
Lumley followed in Kriegel’s record-setting footsteps as she ran in the 10,000 meters invitational. The graduate transfer from Drake, where she holds the school record in the 10,000 meters, completed the race in 33:18.15. That time shattered her personal best by over 33 seconds and set the Vanderbilt record in the event. Lumley’s time broke the previous record of 33:44.76, topping the 12-year-old record by over 26 seconds.
The Commodores will look to build on this momentum as they gear up for the Florida Relays Friday and Saturday, in Gainesville, Florida.
